The mise en scene starts with bright neon bar lights in a dark streets and corridors. Already the audience are engaged in as it keeps them at the edge of their seats. The audience also notice the rainy atmosphere, that gives a sense of being lost and vulnerable. It is then made evident to the audience that the film is set in an exotic place like India. Props are used e.g. pills that the character takes as painkillers for headaches.
Shots and angles:
There are many types of shots and angles used in this opening sequence. At the start there is lots of close ups of the character to represent emotion, this then encourages the audience to get involved. There is a flashback at the start, with midshots showing the character's past and gives the audience an insight of what might has happened. The flashback also creates enigma codes to the audience.
Eventhough there isn't much sound used, the ones used are very effective. For example there is blurred sounds when the character is dreaming about his past. This makes the sound distant and makes the audience feel how the character is far away and his past will not come back.
Another non diagetic sound is used is the programmed sound, when the character wakes up. As this symbolise that the film will be set in the future. The rest of sound is dialogue and is diagetic and has not been edited out.
There has been some editing done e.g. at the end of the nightmare, where there has been lots of quick cuts to match the fast paced film. This has matched the mood and atmosphere of the film, creating a thrilling affect towards audience.
